Teen Volunteer
Over the summer of 2017, I was given the opportunity to become a teen volunteer at the Northeast Georgia Medical center. This program allows many teens from age 15-18 to volunteer at the hospital and make a difference in patients' lives. I was very excited to give back to my community by doing what I love most, helping others. Throughout the summer I would go in once a week for four hours with other teens and help around the hospital. Some of the things we were able to do was; deliver mail, help nurses with non-medical duties such as restocking supplies, walk around with a trained dog to make patients feel better, and one of my favorites, go around the hospital with a cookie cart. The cookie cart was one of my favorites since I was able to interact with patients and their families and give them a sense of hope through their hard times. I was also able to go to New Horizons where there was an elderly home and met some amazing people. There, I was able to make a difference in this patient's life, a lady named Stacy, which I constantly go visit now and then. Overall, this program has been a great blessing and experience! I enjoy making others feel better and sharing hope and happiness with them. |
